Our verdict
Best for traders who want fast, frequent payouts and an end-of-day drawdown during the test. Watch the switch to an intraday trailing drawdown and the buffer requirement once you reach PRO, and budget for the $130 activation fee unless you buy with a no-fee promotion.

How Take Profit Trader works
Take Profit Trader uses a one-step evaluation that it calls the Test. There are three stages:
| Stage | Account | Profit split | Drawdown | Withdrawals |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test | Simulated | — | End-of-day trailing | None |
| PRO | Simulated | 80/20 | Intraday trailing | From day one, after the buffer |
| PRO+ | Live market | 90/10 | End-of-day | From day one, no buffer |
You pay a monthly subscription for the Test, with no time limit to pass. Once you hit the profit target and follow the rules for at least three trading days, the subscription stops and you move to a PRO account after paying the one-time activation fee. PRO accounts are simulated, but withdrawals are paid in real money. PRO+ is a live account routed to the exchange through Tradovate, and TPT invites traders to it at its own discretion.
Take Profit Trader rules
Test (evaluation) rules
- Profit target: from $1,500 on the $25K account to $9,000 on the $150K account (see the pricing table below).
- Maximum position size: 3 contracts on $25K up to 15 contracts on $150K, with micros at ten times the contract limit.
- End-of-day trailing drawdown: the minimum balance follows your highest end-of-day balance. On a $25K account it starts at $23,500 and moves up as you close days in profit, until it reaches $25,000 and stops trailing. Hitting the minimum balance at any moment, including with open losses, fails the account.
- No daily loss limit. TPT removed it; the account shows the old figure as "removed".
- Minimum 3 trading days, even if you reach the target sooner.
- 50% consistency rule: your best day must be less than half of your total net profit. If one day is too large, you do not fail; your profit goal rises to more than twice your best day. Read our consistency rule guide for worked examples.
- Approved products and hours: most CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX futures. Every position must be closed by the end of the trading day, and TPT closes anything still open at 4:55 PM ET. No overnight or weekend holds.
- No trading bots and no counter positions (holding opposite positions in the same or closely related products).
PRO account rules
- Intraday trailing drawdown. This is the biggest change from the Test. In PRO, the drawdown follows your peak balance including unrealized profit, in real time. Example from TPT: on a $25K PRO account, if an open trade reaches +$1,000 and you close it at +$500, your minimum balance has already moved up to $24,500. Like the Test, it stops trailing once it reaches your starting balance. Our trailing drawdown guide explains the difference in detail.
- Prohibited news: you must be flat, with no open orders, from one minute before to one minute after FOMC statements, Non-Farm Payroll and CPI releases.
- Trade at least once a week to keep the account active.
- Exit before limit up / limit down; holding a position into a price limit closes the account.
- No bots, no counter positions, as in the Test.
- Up to 5 active funded accounts (PRO and PRO+ combined) and up to 10 passed tests activated in any 30 days.
PRO+ keeps the news, weekly-trading and limit rules, but switches back to an end-of-day drawdown and removes the buffer.
Take Profit Trader payout rules
In PRO you can request a withdrawal from the first day, but only on profit above a buffer equal to your maximum drawdown. On a $50K account that means reaching $52,000 before you can withdraw your 80% share.
| Account | Balance needed before withdrawing |
|---|---|
| $25K | $26,500 |
| $50K | $52,000 |
| $75K | $77,500 |
| $100K | $103,000 |
| $150K | $154,500 |
There is no minimum number of profitable days, no payout window and no maximum withdrawal. You must be flat when you submit the request; for Tradovate PRO accounts the move from the account to your TPT wallet is automated and takes seconds. From the wallet you are paid through Plaid (US bank accounts), PayPal or Wise. Withdrawals of $250 or less from the wallet cost $50; larger withdrawals have no TPT fee.
In PRO+ the split rises to 90/10 and there is no buffer requirement.
Is Take Profit Trader legit?
Take Profit Trader is a futures prop firm led by founder and CEO James Sixsmith. It says it routes all orders through regulated, CME-approved data and brokerage providers (Rithmic, CQG/Tradovate and NinjaTrader) and never acts as the counterparty to trades. Its payout process, rules and fees are documented in detail in its public help center, which we used for this review.
Two things to understand before you buy. First, Test and PRO accounts are simulated; the profits you withdraw are real, but your trades do not reach the exchange until PRO+. Second, like every prop firm, TPT earns a large share of its revenue from test fees. TPT itself reported that 20.37% of its registered users passed a test between January and August 2023. Treat the Test as a cost of doing business and size your trades well inside the drawdown.
Who Take Profit Trader is for
TPT suits day traders who want fast, frequent access to their profits and prefer an end-of-day drawdown while they are being evaluated. It is a weaker fit for traders who hold positions overnight, trade around major news releases or use automated strategies, and for anyone who expects to need many months to pass, since the Test is billed monthly.
Take Profit Trader platforms
Take Profit Trader supports NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView, Quantower, MotiveWave, MultiCharts, Bookmap, with Rithmic and CQG data feeds. Approved trade copiers can be used to copy trades across your own accounts, but not between different traders.
