Cost: Apex vs Take Profit Trader
The two firms charge in different ways. Apex sells one-time evaluations that expire after 30 days, plus an activation fee when you pass. Take Profit Trader bills its Test as a monthly subscription with no time limit, plus a $130 activation fee. Both run their own sitewide codes: Apex's help center tells traders to use SAVENOW, which took 90% off evaluations on October 25, 2026, and TPT's NOFEE40 takes 40% off the monthly price for the life of the account and waives the activation fee.
| 50K account | Apex Intraday Trail | Apex EOD Trail | Take Profit Trader |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evaluation, list price | $249 one-time | $590 one-time | $170 per month |
| Evaluation with a code (Oct 25, 2026) | $24.90 (SAVENOW) | $59 (SAVENOW) | $102 per month (NOFEE40) |
| Activation fee | $99 | $129 | $130 (waived with NOFEE40) |
| Pass on the first try, with a code | $123.90 | $188 | $102 (in one month) |
| Two attempts, with a code | $148.80 | $247 | About $200 (a $99 reset or a second month) |
| Time limit | 30 days | 30 days | None |
For a first-time pass within a month, Take Profit Trader is the cheapest with NOFEE40. If you fail and try again, Apex's coupon makes retries cheaper: a new 50K Intraday evaluation was only $24.90. At list prices both are expensive, so check the current code at checkout.
Rules and drawdown
| 50K evaluation | Apex | Take Profit Trader |
|---|---|---|
| Profit target | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| Maximum drawdown | $2,000, end-of-day or intraday trailing | $2,000, end-of-day trailing |
| Daily loss limit | $1,000 on EOD Trail (pauses trading); none on Intraday | None |
| Max contracts | 6 minis | 6 minis |
| Consistency rule | None | Best day below 50% of profit |
| Fastest pass | 1 day | 3 days |
Apex is built for speed: no consistency rule and no minimum days, so you can pass in one day, but only 30 days in total with no resets. TPT gives you unlimited time but needs at least three days and a 50% consistency rule.
Once funded, Apex keeps the drawdown type you chose. Take Profit Trader's PRO account always switches to an intraday trailing drawdown. See our trailing drawdown guide.
Payouts: Apex vs Take Profit Trader
| 50K funded account | Apex Performance Account | Take Profit Trader PRO |
|---|---|---|
| Profit split | 100% (90% in Apex Live) | 80% (90% in live PRO+) |
| When you can withdraw | After 5 qualifying days, largest day under 50% of profit | Daily, from day one, once the balance is above $52,000 |
| Cap per payout | $1,500 rising to $3,000 | No maximum |
| Payouts per account | Six, then the account closes (at most $13,000 on 50K EOD, $14,500 on Intraday) | No limit stated |
| Max funded accounts | 20 | 5 |
Apex keeps nothing from approved payouts, but caps each one and closes the account after six. Take Profit Trader keeps 20% in PRO, but lets you withdraw everything above the buffer, every day, with no maximum. TPT charges $50 for wallet withdrawals of $250 or less.
Platforms and trading rules
Apex supports NinjaTrader, Tradovate and WealthCharts. Take Profit Trader supports NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView, Quantower, MotiveWave, MultiCharts and Bookmap.
- Automation: neither allows bots or automated strategies.
- News: Apex allows news with your normal strategy but bans gambling on releases with orders on both sides. TPT PRO accounts must be flat from one minute before to one minute after FOMC, NFP and CPI.
- Overnight positions: neither allows them. Close by 4:59 PM ET at Apex and 4:55 PM ET at TPT.
- Inactivity: Apex needs two days of $50+ profit in every 30 days on each funded account; TPT needs at least one trade a week in PRO.
Trust and track record
Apex Trader Funding was founded in 2021 in Austin, Texas, by Darrell Martin and reports more than $692 million paid to traders since 2022. Take Profit Trader is led by founder and CEO James Sixsmith and routes orders through Rithmic, CQG/Tradovate and NinjaTrader; we could not verify its founding year from official sources.
Both publish detailed public help centers, which we used for this comparison. Apex relaunched its program on March 1, 2026, so older content about Apex subscriptions no longer applies.
Bottom line
Pick Apex Trader Funding if you pass fast, may need several cheap attempts, want 100% of approved payouts and plan to run many accounts. Pick Take Profit Trader if you want no deadline, the cheapest first-time pass with NOFEE40 and uncapped daily withdrawals, and can accept an 80% split and an intraday drawdown in PRO.
