Cost: Topstep vs FundedNext Futures

FundedNext Futures sells one-time Challenges with no activation fee and no time limit. Topstep's Trading Combine is a monthly subscription, also with no time limit, and charges a $149 activation fee on its Standard path or nothing on its more expensive No Activation Fee path. FundedNext publishes its own codes: on October 25, 2026, FNFLEX took 47% off a trader's first two Flex Challenges and 40% after that. Topstep does not publish a sitewide code of its own; codes from its affiliate creators take 20% off the first month.

Evaluation with a code (Oct 25, 2026)$39.20 first month on Standard (20% creator code)About $75 (FNFLEX, first two Challenges)
Activation fee$149 on Standard, none on No Activation FeeNone
Pass in one month, cheapest route$95 (No Activation Fee)About $75
Reset$49 (Standard) or $95 (No Activation Fee)$82.99

With its own code, FundedNext is the cheaper start, and because it is a one-time fee, it stays cheaper the longer you take. Without a code, Flex costs $141.99, so Topstep's $95 No Activation Fee path is cheaper for a one-month pass. Codes change, so check the price at checkout.

A FundedNext 50K Flex is a smaller account than its name suggests: a lower target, but a $500 tighter drawdown and two fewer contracts than Topstep's 50K. Its consistency rule is also stricter. If you want to pass in one day, FundedNext's Rapid Challenges have no evaluation consistency rule.

Both keep an end-of-day trailing drawdown once funded. FundedNext's locks at the starting balance plus $100; Topstep's locks once you build a cushion. Once funded, Flex has no consistency rule, and Topstep applies one (40%) only on its Consistency payout path. See our trailing drawdown guide.

Payouts: Topstep vs FundedNext

Cap per payout$2,000 (Standard) or $3,000 (Consistency), up to 50% of balance$1,500, up to 50% of profit
Max funded accounts55 per household

FundedNext pays the higher split (95%), but each 50K Flex payout is capped at $1,500 and the account concludes after five rewards, so you need a new Challenge to continue. Topstep pays 90% with higher caps. FundedNext promises to process rewards within 24 hours and adds $1,000 if one is late (bank transfers excluded).

Both offer live capital: FundedNext reviews traders after 15 rewards, and Topstep's Risk Team calls traders up to a Live Funded Account with no dollar cap.

Platforms and trading rules

FundedNext Futures supports Tradovate, NinjaTrader and TradingView. Topstep runs on TopstepX, with Quantower as the only alternative.

  • News: both allow news trading. Topstep bans trading your full maximum size into major scheduled news.
  • Automation: both allow bots and automated strategies.
  • Overnight positions: neither allows them. Both close at 3:10 PM CT.
  • Micro-scalping: at FundedNext, profit from trades closed within 10 seconds is deducted once it reaches 40% of a cycle's profit.
  • Copying: both allow copying your own trades; FundedNext allows it even from accounts at other prop firms.

Trust and track record

Topstep has run its Trading Combine since 2012 in Chicago, says it has paid more than $1.5 billion to traders and owns Topstep Brokerage, a separate introducing broker and NFA member. FundedNext launched in 2022, is registered in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, and reports more than $402 million in total rewards on its futures homepage. FundedNext also runs separate forex and CFD challenges; this page covers its futures program only.

Both publish their futures rules in public help centers, which we used for this comparison.

Bottom line

Pick FundedNext Futures if you want the cheapest start with FNFLEX, a one-time fee, a 95% split and NinjaTrader, Tradovate or TradingView, and you are happy to rotate accounts after five rewards. Pick Topstep if you want a full-size 50K account, a looser consistency rule, larger payouts and a long track record.
