Apex Trader Funding Activation Fee (2026): Is It Worth It?
By Modestas R. · Updated · 7 min read
Pass an Apex Trader Funding evaluation and there is one more bill before you can trade for payouts: the activation fee for your Performance Account. Many new Apex traders search for it, and most answers online are years old. This guide gives the current fee for every account size, when and how you pay it, what happens if you miss the deadline, and whether a No Activation Fee evaluation is the cheaper way in.
How much is the Apex Trader Funding activation fee?
The fee depends on the drawdown type and the size of the evaluation you passed. Apex shows it under "One-Time Activation Fee" in the Performance Account details of each plan on its site:
| Account size | Intraday Trail | EOD Trail |
|---|---|---|
| 25K | $89 | $109 |
| 50K | $99 | $129 |
| 100K | $129 | $139 |
| 150K | $149 | $159 |
One-time fee per Performance Account, checked on Apex's site on October 27, 2026. No Activation Fee evaluations have no fee.
So a trader who passes a 50K Intraday Trail evaluation pays $99 to activate the funded account, and a trader who passes a 50K EOD Trail evaluation pays $129. The EOD versions cost more to activate at every size. For how the two drawdown types differ, see our guide to EOD vs intraday trailing drawdown.
Apex also sells No Activation Fee versions of both evaluations. They cost more up front and nothing after you pass, which is covered further down.
What does the activation fee pay for?
The activation fee turns a passed evaluation into a Performance Account (PA), Apex's simulated funded account where you trade for payouts. According to Apex's help center:
- The PA has the same size and type as the evaluation you passed: a 50K EOD evaluation gives a 50K EOD Performance Account.
- It is a one-time payment per account. It is not a subscription, does not renew monthly and does not need to be cancelled.
- The activation stays valid for as long as that Performance Account stays active.
- After you pay, the PA is created with the same login as your evaluation. That can take up to 6 hours, and accounts activated after the Friday close are created on Sunday evening.
When do you pay it? The 7-day window
Timing matters more than the amount, because the deadline is strict:
- Hit your profit target while following the evaluation rules.
- Apex reviews the account at the market close (4:59:59 PM ET). The evaluation is marked as Passed and appears under Passed Evals in your dashboard after 6 PM ET.
- From that moment you have 7 calendar days to pay through the Purchase PA link next to the passed evaluation.
The clock starts when the evaluation is marked as Passed, not when you hit the target during the session. If you pass on the last day of your 30-day evaluation, you still get the full 7 days.
The window cannot be extended. If you don't pay in time, the activation link expires permanently and you have to pass a new evaluation. If the Purchase PA link hasn't appeared after two full calendar days, Apex asks you to open a support ticket.
One more detail: once an evaluation is marked as Passed it is locked so it can't be traded. If it was your only active evaluation, you have no market data until you activate the PA or buy another evaluation.
Is the Apex activation fee refundable?
No. Apex states that the activation fee is not refundable, transferable or reversible, and an activation can't be moved to a different account size.
It also covers only that one account. If your Performance Account is later disqualified, liquidated or closed, you need to pass a new evaluation and pay a new activation fee to get another one. That is worth remembering when you compare the fee with firms that charge none.
Does the SAVENOW coupon work on the activation fee?
No. Apex's coupon page says that coupon codes cannot be applied to resets or Performance Account activation fees. SAVENOW, Apex's standing coupon, only discounts the evaluation itself.
Apex sometimes runs separate activation fee discounts. Its help center explains that those have their own end date, apply only until that date, and can also be used on evaluations bought before the sale. When we checked, no activation fee discount was running. The Apex coupon code page shows the current sale.
No Activation Fee evaluations: how they work
Every Apex evaluation comes in two versions:
- Standard: a cheaper evaluation, plus the activation fee once you pass.
- No Activation Fee: a more expensive evaluation, and nothing to pay when you pass.
Both are one-time purchases that last 30 days, with no resets. The coupon applies to both, so the gap between them shrinks a lot during a sale, while the activation fee stays the same. Here is the total cost of one funded account, by size, and how many attempts it takes before Standard becomes the cheaper choice:
| Account | Standard + fee | No Activation Fee | Standard is cheaper from |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25K Intraday Trail | $105.70 | $69 | the 2nd attempt |
| 50K Intraday Trail | $123.90 | $79.90 | the 2nd attempt |
| 100K Intraday Trail | $208 | $99.90 | the 7th attempt |
| 150K Intraday Trail | $268 | $189 | the 3rd attempt |
| 25K EOD Trail | $158 | $109 | the 2nd attempt |
| 50K EOD Trail | $188 | $119 | the 3rd attempt |
| 100K EOD Trail | $258 | $159 | the 4th attempt |
| 150K EOD Trail | $378 | $249 | the 6th attempt |
Prices from Apex's site on October 27, 2026, with the 90% SAVENOW coupon that was running on October 28, 2026. See the Apex coupon code page for the current sale.
Is the Apex activation fee worth it?
It depends on how many evaluations you expect to buy before you pass. You pay the activation fee once, but you pay the evaluation price every time you try:
Standard total = attempts × Standard price + activation fee
No Activation Fee total = attempts × No Activation Fee price
Standard is cheaper once: attempts > activation fee ÷ (No Activation Fee price − Standard price)
At list price the answer is simple. A 50K Intraday Trail evaluation costs $249 and its No Activation Fee version $799. One attempt costs $249 + $99 = $348 on Standard against $799, so Standard is cheaper from the very first attempt, by a wide margin.
During a big sale the picture flips. With the 90% coupon Apex was running on October 28, 2026, the same evaluations cost $24.90 and $79.90. One attempt costs $24.90 + $99 = $123.90 on Standard against $79.90 for No Activation Fee, so No Activation Fee wins if you pass first time. From the second attempt Standard is cheaper: $148.80 against $159.80.
A practical rule: during a sale, pick No Activation Fee if you are confident you will pass on the first try, and Standard if you expect several attempts. How many depends on the size: the table above shows the break-even for each account, from the 2nd attempt on a 25K or 50K Intraday Trail to the 7th on a 100K Intraday Trail. Outside a sale, Standard is cheaper from the first attempt. Our comparison covers cost only; check the rules of each version on Apex's site before you buy.
Legacy accounts have different activation fees
Apex also sells Legacy evaluations for a limited time. They are a separate program: monthly subscriptions with their own rules and their own one-time PA fee, listed on Apex's Legacy products page:
| Legacy account | Rithmic and WealthCharts | Tradovate |
|---|---|---|
| 25K | $99 | $105 |
| 50K | $125 | $130 |
| 100K | $149 | $155 |
| 150K | $179 | $185 |
| 250K | $189 | $189 |
| 300K | $199 | $199 |
These are the "$99 to $199" fees you may see quoted elsewhere. They apply to Legacy accounts only, not to the current Intraday Trail and EOD Trail evaluations. Prices as listed on October 28, 2026.
